A daily rental price is a useful starting point. It is not the whole holiday budget. Before you book, you need to know which car the rate covers, whether your destination changes the price, and what you will pay separately.
This guide to self-drive car rental prices in Nepal explains how to compare daily, weekly and monthly options without losing track of the small details. At Rent Car Nepal, you can start with a vehicle’s published rate and request a quote for your actual dates and route.
How much does a self-drive car rental cost in Nepal?
Our published fleet rates currently include the Nammi Box E3 at NPR 6,000 per day, BYD Dolphin at NPR 7,000, MG ZS EV and Nammi Vigo at NPR 8,000, and BYD Atto 3 at NPR 9,000. These are vehicle-specific starting references, not a single price for every journey.
The following figures were checked on September 27, 2026. Availability, vehicle selection and the final booking conditions still matter.
| Vehicle | Published daily base rate | Useful comparison point |
|---|---|---|
| Nammi Box E3 | NPR 6,000 | Lower rental budget |
| BYD Atto 1 | NPR 6,500 | Another compact EV option |
| BYD Dolphin | NPR 7,000 | Electric hatchback alternative |
| Tata Nexon EV Max | NPR 7,500 | SUV-style alternative |
| MG ZS EV | NPR 8,000 | Family vehicle shortlist |
| Nammi Vigo | NPR 8,000 | Compare cabin and luggage needs |
| Omoda E5 | NPR 8,500 | Another SUV option |
| BYD Atto 3 | NPR 9,000 | Higher daily rental budget |
Check the current rental fleet before choosing. A larger vehicle is only better value if you actually need its space, features or route suitability.
Daily, weekly and monthly rental: how pricing changes
Short rentals
For a one-day or weekend booking, the daily rate usually has the biggest effect on your budget. Confirm the collection and return times together. Do not assume that collecting late in the afternoon automatically lets you return at the end of the following evening.
A three-day booking at a base rate of NPR 6,000 would produce NPR 18,000 in rental charges before any separately agreed charges. That is an arithmetic example, not an outside-valley package quote.
Weekly bookings
The duration bands displayed on our fleet currently show 5% off for 7–15 days, 10% off for 16–25 days, and 20% off for 26 or more days. Eligibility and the final amount should appear in your confirmed booking.
Using the Nammi Box’s published base rate, seven days with a 5% reduction works out to NPR 5,700 per day, or NPR 39,900 in rental charges. Always compare the total, not just the size of the discount.
Monthly bookings
Thirty days at a discounted daily rate of NPR 4,800 would total NPR 144,000. This illustrates the displayed Nammi Box rate structure; it is not an all-inclusive monthly offer for every destination or use.
If you need regular transport for work or an extended stay, our monthly self-drive rental guide explains the additional questions to ask about use, servicing and extensions.
What can change your final rental price?
Your destination
A Kathmandu Valley booking and an outside-valley road trip may receive different quotes. Our booking system notes that outside-valley estimates can vary by destination. Give us your full route, including side trips, before you accept the price.
A trip described as “Pokhara” may include a hotel in the city, a countryside stay and several detours. Those details affect suitability and planning. Start with our Kathmandu–Pokhara self-drive guide if that is your route.
The exact vehicle and rental dates
Compare the same model, rental duration and pickup arrangements when comparing two offers. A cheaper headline can refer to a different vehicle or a different set of conditions. Ask what happens if your requested car becomes unavailable before handover.
Delivery and collection arrangements
Airport, hotel or another handover point should be agreed in advance. Ask whether delivery, parking or collection charges apply to your booking. Your written quote should make those items visible rather than leaving you to discover them at pickup.
Extra costs to include in your budget
Your trip budget may include charging or fuel, parking, accommodation and attraction fees. Rental-related charges can also arise from late return, excessive cleaning, damage or other responsibilities under the agreement.
Insurance does not automatically remove every possible charge. Read our deposit and insurance guide and the rental terms before paying.
A refundable deposit is different from a rental charge. It may not become an expense, but you still need the money or agreed security available. Keep that separate in your budget so you do not accidentally spend funds needed for collection.
How to compare rental quotes fairly
Put each offer beside the same checklist:
- Exact vehicle or agreed replacement category.
- Pickup date, time and place.
- Return date, time and place.
- Permitted destinations and any distance conditions.
- Rental total after applicable discounts.
- Charging or fuel responsibilities.
- Deposit, insurance excess and other possible liabilities.
- Delivery fees and the treatment of applicable taxes.
- Cancellation, extension and late-return conditions.
Ask for anything unclear to be explained before confirming. A short written breakdown is more useful than a promise that “everything is included” without a definition of everything.
Ways to keep the total cost sensible
Choose a car that fits your passengers and luggage. Book enough time for the journey so a tight return deadline does not create unnecessary pressure. Group sightseeing stops by area rather than driving back and forth across the valley.
For an EV, plan charging around your route and meals. A lower energy bill is useful, but choosing an unsuitable charger or a distant detour can consume time. Our EV versus petrol cost comparison shows how to compare complete journeys.
For holiday bookings, our Dashain and Tihar rental checklist helps you confirm dates, luggage and any genuine seasonal offer before paying.
If your dates are flexible, tell us. We can check the vehicles available for those dates rather than having you commit to a particular model before availability is confirmed.
Frequently asked questions
Is the cheapest daily rate always the cheapest booking?
No. Duration, delivery, route conditions and excluded costs can change the total. Compare written quotes for the same journey and rental period.
Are weekly and monthly discounts available?
Our current fleet displays duration-based reductions. Check the applicable vehicle, dates and final quote because a displayed calculation is not a guarantee for every booking.
Does the rental price include charging?
Confirm this in your quote. Do not assume public charging, hotel charging or an agreed return-charge requirement is included in the vehicle’s daily rate.
Can I take a Kathmandu rental to Pokhara?
Ask for an outside-valley booking and route approval before departure. The vehicle, conditions and final price must match the trip you intend to take.
How do I get an accurate price?
Send your dates, pickup point, return point, passenger count, luggage and planned destinations. Include a preferred car if you have one, or ask us to suggest suitable options.
